When filling a pot, its drainage openings need to remain functional without unnecessarily allowing growing medium to fall into the tray. A square Marix disc fits inside the base of an AutoPot pot to retain those particles. It is a useful part to include when preparing or refurbishing an installation with square pots.

How it works
Marix forms a separating layer between the growing medium and the openings in the pot base. It helps reduce debris that could enter the tray and interfere with the AQUAvalve. Its main purpose is retaining growing medium. It does not perform the same job as a metallic root-control sheet and does not replace a suitable PotSock.

Compatibility and accessory selection
The manufacturer specifies square 8.5 L and 15 L pots in the Easy2Grow, 1Pot and Auto8 ranges. It therefore fits both Easy2Grow modules and the four-pot 15 L kit shown here. The 25 L XL pot has a different base: do not treat this mat as an automatic equivalent to its round disc.
Installation
Start with an empty, clean pot. Lay the mat flat across the base, covering the intended openings, then add growing medium without shifting it. Before placing the pot in the tray, remove particles stuck beneath it or along its sides. Then check that the water inlet and valve remain clear.
Maintenance
When changing crops, examine the mat for tears, distortion or accumulated residue that may reduce its usefulness. Replace it if its condition no longer allows proper positioning. Maintain the tray, filter and pipework as well; having a Marix disc does not remove the need to clean the installation.

Where does Marix go?
Inside the pot, at the very bottom, before adding growing medium. It does not take the place of the root-control sheet beneath the pot.
How many are needed for a four-pot kit?
