How to choose an LED horticultural lamp for indoor growing?

Introduction

Indoor growing has been booming since the 90/2000s. In the early 2000s, many growshop were created in France and around the world to be able to supply indoor growers with different products. You could find there the very first HPS / SODIUM horticultural lamps of 250W, 400W, 600W and 1000W. Most of the time, these are complicated solutions to install and very energy consuming. Then, around 2005, new ECO / MG horticultural bulbs arrived in these shops. These are large bulbs which consume from 75 to 300W for the larger ones. They are imposing, fragile and the harvest is not necessarily there.

2010: the arrival of the first horticultural LED bulbs

In the late 2000s and early 2010s, the first horticultural lighting solutions with LED technology arrived in grow rooms. When this new solution is released, many opinions are quick to cast doubt on the performance of these lamps. This is really right, because at that time it happened very quickly and the sellers were ill-informed. As a result, products are very quickly sold with announced drops in consumption of 20 to 30x less. The disappointment could therefore be there.

SMD, COB, Chips, High Power, components in competitions

After the 2012 years, efficient, economical and secure solutions are coming to equip many grow rooms. Many components are therefore arriving to equip these new horticultural LED panels. Today these three components can be used to combine and obtain perfect lighting. The penetration of the COB LED, the homogeneity of SMD or the spectrum of HighPower.

Check the consumption of your LED horticultural lamp!

The consumption in Watts of your lighting will allow you to start on a good basis for the performance of it. If you had to compare a product first, consumption is a possible criterion. On a popular online sales site there is a lot, if not a lot, of product with false information and false opinions. At the start of this year, we had a person who thought he had a 600W panel, when he only consumed 30W. Disappointed with performance, this person switched to a suitable 300W product and was very satisfied with the result.

Check the brand or company that sells this lamp

There are many companies that enter the market with lighting, without being aware of the constraints of our growing environment. We need specific lamps. A traditional lamp is not intended to remain on for 12 or 18 hours a day for a long period of time. It is therefore necessary to provide a good heat sink, a relatively expensive station, but which ensures, a perfect longevity to your system.
