Frequently asked questions
Your questions
Hello, does the Dual-Zone Dimming dimmer allow separate adjustment of the 8 Quantum Board panels or is it a global setting for the entire HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo lamp?
The Dual-Zone Dimming dimmer on the HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo lamp allows differentiated control between two distinct zones of the lamp, but it does not allow individual separate adjustment of the 8 Quantum Board panels. Therefore, it is a global setting by zone, not for each panel individually.
HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo guaranteed for 5 years, passive cooling OK, but in hydro culture, what real effects have you observed in terms of heat management and impact on spectrum quality compared to a CMH or classic LED?
HLG Scorpion Diablo Ultima Lamp – Reflector Series integrates a very effective passive cooling system, which limits the heat released in the growing space, a major asset in hydroponics where the temperature of the nutrient solution must remain stable.Compared to a CMH, this lamp generates less heat and eliminates the need for additional fans, simplifying thermal management. The spectrum offered is a white enriched with deep red (37:42:21 for Red:Green:Blue), ideal for promoting vigorous growth and abundant flowering, providing an excellent balance between photosynthetic efficiency and light quality.Compared to a classic LED, the Ultima Diablo delivers a more targeted spectrum and better light efficiency, without the overheating often observed with older technologies. Its design suited for hydro cultures improves thermal stability while optimizing plant development.
How to precisely set the DualZone Dimming system to optimize the differentiated management of growth and flowering with the HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo lamp?
To precisely adjust the DualZone Dimming system of the HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo, you need to independently modulate the two LED zones to adapt the light according to the growth phase:
During growth, decrease the intensity of the Deep Red zone to favor a whiter, more balanced light for optimal vegetative growth. Adjust the second zone for a softer brightness, avoiding stress on young leaves.
During flowering, increase the power of the Deep Red zone to stimulate flower production while modulating the second zone to maintain intense but even lighting, thereby maximizing yield and energy efficiency.
For precise control, consider using a GrowFlux system (sold separately), which allows for wireless dimming and customized settings according to your cycles.
Finally, always start with low intensities and gradually adjust, ideally measuring PPFD to ensure well-distributed light that suits your space.
What is the approximate lifespan of the LEDs on the HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo lamp before significant lumen drop?
The HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo lamp uses high-quality LEDs mounted on passive Quantum Boards®, designed to last. Their lifespan before a significant reduction in lumens (approximately 20-30% loss) is generally between 30,000 and 50,000 hours, which translates to several years of intensive lighting. This longevity is also backed by a 5-year manufacturer warranty, ensuring stability and reliability.
What light power management strategy do you recommend for coexisting two HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo lamps in parallel in a 150x150 cm tent without risking overheating or stressing the plants?
To associate two HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo lamps in a 150x150 cm tent without risking overheating or stress, here is the ideal strategy:
- Dim the lamps using their Dual-Zone Dimming system to adjust the intensity based on the plants' needs and reduce overall power.
- Hang them at a minimum of 76-91 cm above the plants to limit direct light intensity while ensuring uniform coverage.
- Limit the power to about 60-70% per lamp, which avoids excessive PPF too concentrated over 2.25 m² and maintains plant health.
- Monitor the temperature of the tent to keep it below 40°C, combining effective ventilation to dissipate heat.
- Position them to minimize the intense overlap of illuminated areas, thereby optimizing light distribution.
This fine management ensures a powerful yet controlled light environment, ideal for healthy growth in your compact space.
What is the actual noise reduction with the passive cooling system compared to an active cooling model, and does it affect the ventilation loss in the grow tent?
The HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo features passive cooling that completely eliminates the noise from fans found in active cooling models. This provides very quiet operation, ideal for a peaceful environment. However, this system generates more heat at full power, especially in confined spaces.
To prevent overheating, it is essential to ensure proper ventilation in your grow tent. This does not create additional air loss but rather an increased need for effective air circulation to preserve both the lamp and your plants. Good air extraction remains essential with this type of system.
What is the best method to manage the light intensity of the HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo when running two crops in a 150x150 cm tent in parallel without risking plant stress?
To manage the light intensity of the HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo in a 150x150 cm tent with two crops running in parallel, the best method is to use the built-in Dual-Zone Dimming feature. This function allows independent adjustment of intensity in each zone, thus limiting plant stress.
Additionally, you can adjust the distance between the plants and the lamp by modifying the height of the panel or by placing the crops on supports at different levels. Shades or screens can also be used to filter light on certain more sensitive areas.
Be careful not to exceed the recommended intensities, as too much power in a confined space can quickly cause plant stress.
What is the ideal procedure to adjust the dual zone dimmer to optimize growth and flowering without risking overheating or light stress using the HLG Scorpion Diablo lamp in a 150x150 cm tent?
To optimize growth and flowering with the HLG Scorpion Diablo Ultima lamp in a 150×150 cm tent, start by hanging the lamp 60–90 cm above the young plants, then move it closer to 45–60 cm during the flowering phase. Set the Dual Zone dimmer to 50–70% during growth to avoid light stress, and increase it to 70–90% during flowering, never reaching 100% in this space.
Use the Dual Zone function to adjust the light according to the foliage density, promoting uniform distribution and good light penetration. Ensure effective ventilation with an extractor and an oscillating fan to limit overheating. Regularly monitor the health of the plants (leaves, coloration) and the temperature to adjust the height or intensity if signs of stress appear.
Can the dual-zone dimmer be used to precisely adjust the light intensity in a 120x120 tent without risking burning the flowering plants?
Yes, the dual-zone dimmer of the HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo - Reflector Series allows for precise adjustment of light intensity in a 120x120 cm tent, without the risk of burning flowering plants. This Dual-Zone Dimming system offers fine control to adapt the light power according to the needs of the plants.
To avoid any stress or burning, it is also sufficient to respect the recommended distances: between 38 and 60 cm for an intensity of 50 to 75%, and at least 76 cm at 100% power. With these precautions, the light will be ideal for healthy and effective flowering.
What is the best power and height configuration to limit heating and light stress risks without sacrificing growth in a 120x120 cm tent with this lamp?
For a 120x120 cm tent, the HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo - Reflector Series is optimized by combining power and suspension height to protect your plants from light stress while promoting their growth.
Power: during the vegetative phase, set the dimming between 50 and 70% to avoid excessive light and limit heat. During flowering, gradually increase up to 85%, which remains an excellent compromise between intensity and thermal management.
Height: suspend the lamp between 40 and 60 cm above the canopy. Start closer to 60 cm to limit stress and heating, then lower if necessary, observing the condition of your plants.
Ventilation: ensure good air circulation in the tent to maintain the temperature below 28-30°C, an essential condition to avoid thermal stress.
This precise setting, combined with the natural diffusion of the integrated reflectors, ensures powerful and uniform lighting while managing temperature.
What is the best method for adjusting the dual dimmer (Dual-Zone Dimming) on the HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo to optimize growth and flowering in a 150x150 cm tent without risking plant stress due to excessive light intensity?
To optimize growth and flowering with the HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo in a 150x150 cm tent, you need to use the dual dimmer to manage the two groups of Quantum Boards separately.
During vegetative growth, set the first group around 50-70% to provide sufficient light without stress, while the second group can be at a lower intensity to ensure good light coverage.
During flowering, gradually increase both zones to 80-100%, ensuring an optimal PPFD between 600 and 900 µmol/m²/s at the canopy level, without causing burns. The integrated reflectors diffuse light evenly, helping to avoid hot spots.
Regular observation of the plants is essential: if you notice signs of stress (burned or discolored leaves), decrease the intensity. For precise adjustment, a lux meter or PPFD measurement device is a valuable ally.
This method fully utilizes Dual-Zone Dimming for tailored lighting, suited to the specific needs of each growth phase.
How to optimize the installation and the dual zone dimmer setup to avoid light stress with this Scorpion Ultima Diablo in a 150x150 cm tent?
To optimize the installation of the HLG Scorpion Ultima Diablo - Reflector Series in a 150 x 150 cm tent and avoid light stress, start by positioning it at a height of 40 to 60 cm at the beginning. These adjustments ensure effective penetration without burning the plants, thanks to integrated reflectors that evenly diffuse the light.
The dual zone dimmer allows you to independently manage two light zones. To limit stress, start with about 50-60% power on one zone during the initial growth. Then, gradually increase the intensity in the first zone during the vegetative phase, and finally activate and raise the power of both zones during flowering. Always monitor the condition of the leaves to adjust the height or reduce power if necessary.
This fine management, combined with dual zone technology, ensures you have suitable and adaptable lighting, maximizing the health of your plants and your yield without the risk of photosynthetic stress.
