Help & advice
About Ventilation — click a question to see the answer.
As an expert, I can assure you that ventilation is absolutely crucial for the health and productivity of your indoor plants. It allows for air renewal, provides the CO2 necessary for photosynthesis, regulates temperature and humidity, and prevents the appearance of mold or diseases. Without good ventilation, your plants simply won't be able to thrive.
This is a question I encounter often! In practice, an air extractor's primary role is to remove stale air from your grow space and replace it with fresh air. It creates a continuous airflow. A fan, on the other hand, is used to circulate air within the space, to strengthen plant stems and prevent stagnant air pockets. You can find our extractors and our fans in our Top Budget category.
To choose well, I advise you to calculate the volume of your space (Length x Width x Height in meters) and multiply this figure by 60 (for one air change per minute). This result will give you the minimum airflow in m³/h that your extractor should handle. For example, for a 1m x 1m x 2m space, you would need an extractor of at least 120 m³/h. Feel free to consult our article on ventilation to improve your harvest.
Installing a Top Budget ventilation system is generally quite simple. I recommend placing the extractor high up to evacuate hot air. Connect it to a duct that leads outside your space. If you are using a carbon filter for odors, it connects directly to the extractor. A small circulation fan can be added inside for better air movement.
The biggest mistake I often see is underestimating the importance of good air exchange. Insufficient ventilation can lead to temperature, humidity, and CO2 problems, which stresses your plants and significantly reduces your harvest. You also shouldn't neglect fresh air intake, which should be passive or active depending on the size of your setup. Always think about the balance between extraction and intake.
Several indicators will help you. I advise you to carefully monitor the temperature and relative humidity of your grow space. If the temperature is too high or if the humidity is stagnant, your ventilation is probably insufficient. Similarly, if you notice yellowing leaves, signs of mold, or slow development, this may indicate an air circulation problem. A slight oscillation of the plants due to air movement is a good sign!
For a beginner with a limited budget, I recommend starting with a tubular air extractor suitable for the size of your space, accompanied by a small circulation fan. This is the basis for ensuring a healthy environment. If odors are a concern, a carbon filter will be your best ally. Our Top Budget products are selected to offer good value for money without sacrificing essential effectiveness.
