They also offer a more precise and customizable light spectrum, which is a major asset for plant growth. HPS are often cheaper to buy but more expensive to use and less versatile. In a beginner kit, LED is, for me, the most judicious choice for its simplicity and efficiency.

In general, I advise starting with a distance of 40 to 60 cm for young seedlings and gradually adjusting it. If I see that the leaves are yellowing or burning, it means the light is too close. Conversely, if the plants are stretching (long and thin stem), the light is too far away. You need to carefully observe your plants to find the right balance.
